A Family Integrated Church- Turning the hearts of the Fathers to their children pt 3

How To Turn The Hearts Of The Fathers To Their Children Pt. 3

Malachi 4:6 says: *And He shall turn the heart of the father*s to the children, and the heart of the children to their Father*s, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.*
It seems as though our culture today, does everything it can to separate families, rather than bring them together. Whether it's our public schools that  have our kids for as much as eight to ten hours a day- or whether it*s a child care facility- or clubs- or athletic groups- though the intentions may seem good on the surface, but the result is still the same-
a separation of children from their families. This is not God*s design for his people.
*As we pointed out last week- American churches seem to ape the world in this as well. Churches have failed to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of children to their fathers, largely by adding to the separation that already occurs in the culture around us. Children are separated from their parents in Sunday School- they are separated from their parents during the worship service- they are separated by youth groups, and other children*s programs. I*m  not saying that these programs are bad in and of themselves, I*m just saying that they have added to the separation. And the separation has become so severe, that most Christian families no longer have any Bible study together at home, and if they do, they find it very difficult, and very frustrating because they either don*t know how to do it, or else their hearts are so apart from each other, that the desire to study together; or even to be together, is gone.
*
*This is why I believe that an integrated Sunday School is so important. We are bringing parents and their children together, in one Sunday School class, where the parents participate in teaching their children the Bible! Not only are parents learning the Bible from the beginning- but they*re learning it right alongside their children and their teenagers; and then they follow up the study with further study together at home. The Benefits of this method are overwhelming.
*But we don*t stop with bringing families together in Sunday School- we also bring them together  in the Worship Service. Children and teens sit and worship with their parents as well- and they hear the same message every Sunday Morning. This helps to put, and to keep families on the same page when it comes to what*s being taught from the pulpit.
*When a child or a teenager comes to church without a parent, we make sure that that child is teamed up with a surrogate member of our church* they are, (in a sense) adopted by another church family; until we can get their biological family to Christ and to church as well.
*I must add, that this method of being a family integrated church is working very well- though it requires a deep commitment from all the families of the church. But the desire, is to turn the hearts of the father*s to their children, and the hearts of the children to the fathers. This is our churches effort to do that very thing!
*Look at what God*s word says in Psalm 144:7 &12 (KJV)
*Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters,  from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood. That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth, that our daughters may be  as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace.*
*

*In order for the father to have his heart turned to his children, he needs to rid himself of  other people who are ungodly, and who have wrong, and even sinful influences on his children. In other words,
A father needs to learn to turn the T.V. OFF! Most television today not only has a very bad  influence on our children- but it tends to take the time and attention of a father away from his children. The computer can have the same effect!  In turning the heart of the children back to their fathers, sometimes fathers must remove the influence that other children from outside the home have on our kids. Sometimes a father must remove competing influences from his children by keeping other negative children from spending  so much time with his kids. If a father won*t protect his children from negative ungodly outside influences, then who will? This is the call, and challenge of fatherhood.
*We will continue this treatise on turning the hearts  of the fathers to their children next week.

How To Turn The Hearts Of The Father*s To Their Children Pt. 2
Malachi 4:6 says: *And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.*
*As we pointed out in our last article, Malachi 4:6 was a prophecy concerning John the Baptist. It was John the Baptist*s job to prepare the people of Israel for lasting revival, so that the church would continue after Jesus went back to Heaven. It was his job to help turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the children's heart back to their  fathers. THIS WOULD BE KEY TO LASTING REVIVAL!
*Matthew 18:2-7 says: *And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, *verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child. The same is greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe Unto the World Because Of Offenses, for it must needs be that offenses come; But Woe To That Man By who The Offenses Cometh!*
*Jesus tells us in this passage, that having one*s heart turned toward children is necessary to receive him. In order for an adult to humble himself as a child, he needs to recognize that little children are as important in the church as the adults; and that adults are not any more important than children. Just as whites are not any more important than blacks, and just as men are not any more important than women, so adults, are not any more important than children.
EACH CHILD HAS AN ETERNAL SOUL JUST LIKE AN ADULT.
*The point is, A father needs to recognize that God places a very high value on the souls of  that father*s children, and so should that father, and so should the church. Historically, the church has discouraged children from joining the church because they were considered too young. But I believe that when a father joins a church, his whole family should join, even his children, with the expectation that if they*re not already saved, then one day soon, they will be.
*I am convinced that children should not be separated from the adults in the worship service simply because they are considered too young. It is (ignorant) to believe that children cannot understand or get anything out of the worship service. Children have a much greater capacity for spiritual understanding than what many adults and parents realize. After all, Jesus did say, *Let the little children come to me, for such is the kingdom of Heaven.*
*God*s desire, is that a Father and Mother will have Godly descendants. The turning of the hearts of the Fathers to their children begins with a Father loving, and showing affection to his children*s mother. Divorce is very destructive to the family and to having godly descendants. Divorce is not just a sin against one*s spouse but it*s a sin that can affect his descendants for many generations to follow.
The church that is serious about turning the hearts of the fathers to their children needs to be a church that is serious about preaching against divorce, and doing everything it can to help married couples not only stay married, but to also thrive within their marriage.
*As we shall see in our next article, the church as a whole, (within our American culture), has missed the importance of turning the hearts of the fathers to their children, largely be separating the children from their families. Whether it*s Sunday School, youth groups, children*s church, children*s programs, (though the intensions were good), the result was the same, a separation of the children from their parents. This trend within churches must be reversed. We need to bring families together, not separate them more than they already are! *Even Evangelism needs to be more than just getting a person to make a commitment to Christ. God also wants us to help that new Christian turn their heart toward their children, or their future children, so that they too, will help their children and grandchildren come to the Lord. In evangelism, we need to see more than just the  individual, we need to see the future generations of that individual. Each person, can potentially have thousands of descendants, if Christ does not return soon. This is why, it is so important to turn the hearts of the fathers- to their children; so that their children, will turn their hearts to their children, and so on.
Next week I will continue this treatise on being a family integrated church, with part 3.

A Family Integrated Church- Turning The hearts of Fathers To Their Children

Turning The Hearts of Fathers to Their children

Malachi 4:6 says…”And He shall turn the heart of the father’s to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” This was a prophecy concerning the coming of John the Baptist, whose primary responsibility was to prepare the way for the coming of Jesus Christ. One of the ways that John the Baptist was to prepare people- was to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children’s hearts back to their fathers. That need continues to this day, for one day soon, Jesus will come again! Some Christian leaders have pooh-poohed the biological church growth movement, by putting their focus on reaching un-churched people groups not realizing that for lasting revival to occur, and lasting church stability to be maintained, we need evangelism not only to the un-churched, but we also need to keep, and evangelize the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of those families who are already Christians and living in Christian homes.

So, what does it mean for a father to turn his heart to his children? Basically, it means that the father, develops a deep burning desire to see each and everyone of his children grow up to be a man or woman after Jesus’ heart. And because of that desire, this father is willing to do whatever it takes, and make whatever sacrifice needs to be made, to make sure that each child, and grandchild will remain faithful to following Jesus. However, many fathers (and mothers) – feel inadequate in knowing HOW to turn the hearts of their children to them. They need tools to enable them to do so, and to know how to train their children in the ways of the Lord.

How do you turn the hearts of the children to the fathers,…? Deuteronomy 32:46 says: “And he said unto them, set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life; and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land,…” In turning the hearts of the fathers to their children, the fathers need to be shown that teaching their children Christ’s commands, and the commandments of Scriptures is important because it is to the benefit of their children’s lives, and will help prolong their children’s days. Most parents see the need to take care of their children if they are sick, however, they need to see, and to understand that the spiritual and Biblical well being of their children is ever more important, because we are dealing with eternal life, not just physical life which is temporal.

Turning the hearts of the fathers to the children is key to lasting revival, because the fathers train their children and grandchildren to follow the Bible, and NOT follow the  world.  The revival is not lost in one generation, but the love for the Lord Jesus is passed from one generation to the next. God promises us that there will be severe punishment, if the hearts of the fathers are not turned to the children and the children to their fathers, then God said he will smite the earth with a curse.

The point is: God views the turning of the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, as something that is vitally needed. Becoming a Family Integrated Church with a Family Integrated Sunday School, is our churches’ effort, to begin this process in our generation. Next week, I will continue with this treatise (dissertation) on the Family Integrated Church.
